Energy Efficiency Improvement Funding

On the 6th of December the DfE announced additional capital funding for 2022/23 to improve energy efficiency in school buildings, including confirmed allocations for Derby schools. Funding allocations are set out below.

You must spend this funding on capital projects, prioritising projects that improve your school estate’s energy efficiency. Where you judge this is not appropriate based on local circumstances, you have discretion to spend this on other capital projects.

The DfE have provided additional information on this funding allocation here:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/school-capital-funding

To support the allocation of this funding, including identifying appropriate schemes, the DfE have also provided additional guidance available here:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-efficiency-guidance-for-the-school-and-fe-college-estate

The DfE expect the funding to be spent in 2022/23, however, the DfE’s standard grant terms apply which can allow for the funding to be carried forward for a maximum of two years. If the funding has not been spent by this point it will be clawed back.

This funding is Capital funding, and not Revenue funding. Therefore, usual Capital funding grant conditions apply. For maintained schools this funding can be drawn down as per Devolved Formula Capital allocations applications. School must obtain appropriate professional advice in undertaking any building related works and must not appoint contractors directly without first obtaining professional advice. Further information on capital works, project consent and application forms is available on the School Information Portal here: https://schoolsportal.derby.gov.uk/capital-and-buildings/project-consent-devolved-formula-capital/

Payments for VA and Academy schools will be made by the DfE directly to the Diocese or Multi Academy Trust (or directly to the Academy in the case of single stand-alone Academies).
