Do you work with pupils in Year 2? Do you play a key role in KS1 assessment? Would you like to become more confident in your assessment? Would you like to support others in reaching accurate judgements in their assessments?

Derby City LA is currently recruiting for KS1 moderators for the summer term 2025. Moderators are a professional team with up-to-date knowledge of effective assessment processes for KS1.

Becoming a moderator allows teachers to play a significant role in supporting colleagues across the city with end of Key Stage 1 teacher assessment. We know that schools remain keen to make sure they are completely confident in assessments at the end of the key stage, even though assessment is non-statutory.

The primary focus of KS1 moderation is on the assessment of writing, but we will also consider how practice and judgements in reading and maths can be supported through moderation. The training also provides valuable professional development which supports your own classroom practice.

If you or a member of your team are interested in this role and meet the criteria, we would be pleased to receive an application.

Each person wishing to become a moderator should request the application form by emailing vincent.hampton@derby.gov.uk. It will need to be completed and returned by Thursday 7th November 2024.

Applicants should be available for the following:

  • new moderator training on Thursday 28th November (am)
  • KS1 Moderator Training on Monday 24th March (am)
  • KS1 Moderation Standardisation Exercise on Wednesday 23rd April (pm)
  • KS1 Moderation event on Thursday 5th June (am and/or pm)

If you have been a Key Stage 1 moderator in Derby in the last three years, you do not need to complete this application form. You will have already received emails to confirm next steps.
