Opportunities at Derby Museums

Join our next CPD Event at the Museum and Art Gallery!

Our next CPD event is an Educators Open Evening with Derby Museums on the 17th of October at the Museum and Art Gallery. Derby Museums, in partnership with The Bemrose School Primary Phase’s History Lead, Tom Corrigan will bring you a valuable opportunity to enhance your ancient Egyptian Civilisation teaching at Key Stage 2. With an exclusive tour of our exhibition Displaced: From the Nile to the Derwent, you will learn recent research about our Egyptology collection, including our two mummified human remains, and be able to have time to update your school’s curriculum, exploring how Derby, Derbyshire and Egypt are linked over time.

Places are FREE, booking essential.

Pickford’s House is back open!

You can now book school sessions again at Pickford’s’ House, where your learners will explore all the people who have lived and worked in the four walls! Time Travel Toys is where your KS1 children can explore a timeline of toys, make and play. Your KS2 learners will be challenged to explore lots of historical sources to think about the life of Mary Pickford, in History Detectives.

Bring your learners to Pickford’s’ House to go back in time and with a multisensory, festive time travelling experience with our new festive session - A Child’s Christmas with The Pickford’s Family, suitable for Key Stage 1, 2 and SEND groups. By contrasting past traditions with present experiences, they will playfully discover what would have been in the Pickford children's stockings and then explore our beautifully decorated rooms, filling their own ‘stocking’ with handmade traditional Christmas crafts, making good use of their fine motor skills! Before leaving us, we will sit by our huge Christmas tree and sing traditional Christmas songs, helping to spread seasonal cheer!
