The Corporate Health and Safety Team recognise that there is an increasing requirement for schools to manage and administer more and complex medications.

This course aims to increase understanding, by completing the course colleagues will be able to:

  • confirm medication policy key principles.
  • encourage self-administration of medication by pupils where appropriate.
  • name the ‘six rights’ for safer medication administration.
  • apply the ‘six rights’ in practice.
  • identify the legal components of a medication label.
  • recognise what medication tasks you can and can’t do.
  • keep accurate medication administration records.
  • monitor and audit medication records.
  • identify types of medication error and how to report these.
  • state where and how to find advice concerning medicines.

The course will be delivered face to face, participants will undertake group exercises and practical elements such as measuring liquids. Courses will either at the Council’s Kedleston Road Training centre or can be booked in-house at your school.

Costs:

£60 per person for courses held at Kedleston Road.

£300 for 8 places for schools who opt for booking an in-house course.

The course will last no more than 3 hours.

At the end of the course participants will undertake a short multiple-choice test to confirm an understanding of the theory.

A certificate will be issued to colleagues who have achieved 70% or more confirming a satisfactory level of understanding the theory has been met.
