We are thrilled to announce the upcoming 12-week Forward Vision Life Skills Programme organised by The Jamie Simpson Trust. This inspiring initiative will start in February 2024.  The first 12-week programme is for secondary students.  The programme is repeated in June 2024 for primary children. It will be taking place on Saturdays from 11am till 3-4pm at a local Community Centre.

The programme aims to inspire and empower Derby's youth aged between 8 - 18. Through accessible and inclusive learning opportunities, it focuses on skill development, creativity enhancement and future employment preparation. The curriculum is designed to be holistic, fostering personal growth, self-confidence and a sense of community.

Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including hands-on workshops at the Silk Mill, allotment visits, life skills and self-care workshops, cooking classes, budgeting sessions and creative expression time. The programme also includes team-building exercises, career guidance, and a residential experience with outdoor adventures.

The criteria for the students are disadvantaged, either socially, emotionally, or financially.  They are the students that don't have many opportunities in life either through lack of parental input or lack of resources.  I want to give these students a chance to experience the world from a different perspective.  The project is aimed at Black and mixed-race students mostly, but we will support students from all other ethnic groups when places are available.  There are 30 places on each course, and it is free to attend. There is a brochure available with detailed information.
