Good Neighbours is a hugely successful programme that was launched during lockdown by Derby City Council. The programme is now managed by local charity Community Action Derby. It matches individuals in need of support (generally those over 60) with volunteers who can carry out simple tasks like food shopping, befriending, dog walking, light gardening and transporting people to medical appointments.

As you can imagine, during lockdown we had a lot of Good Neighbour volunteers (over 2000 in Derby!), but now we’re down to a small team of committed volunteers.

We’re currently trying to give a big boost to the programme by recruiting new volunteers. Just one hour a week can make all the difference to someone in your community!

This programme not only gives support to those desperately in need, but it relieves pressures on the NHS and social care system (sometimes it can prevent people from being admitted back into acute care settings).

Give back to your community, make new friends and help our NHS.

If you are interested in becoming a Good Neighbour and are aged 18+, we would love to hear from you!
