Would you like to join us as our Children & Young People’s Co-ordinator?

Derby Book Festival is recruiting for a Children & Young People’s Co-ordinator to join our small team on a freelance contract from February to end of December 2024.  We are looking for an individual who has experience of working with children & young people in a school/educational setting or arts environment with a deep love and understanding of the power of books and reading and the enthusiasm and skill to communicate this.

They will be a highly motivated, creative, inspiring and enthusiastic individual.  They should have good organisational skills to enable them to manage and develop a range of projects which currently exist for children and young people aged 0 – 18.  The successful schools’ programme reaches approximately 17,000 children & young people each year through in-person and online events and activities.

Purpose of the role
The Festival is keen to continue to develop our well-established children & young people’s programme to create a city of readers and book lovers.  The programme has grown each year and includes:

  • Meet the Author events for primary and secondary schools
  • Derby Children’s Picture Book Award
  • Early Years’ project
  • Children’s Book Appeal
  • Festival events targeted at children & young people.

It now needs a dedicated co-ordinator to enable it to grow further and to develop activities to extend our reach, particularly outside schools, as well as further embedding the work with schools and expanding it beyond the city.

The post holder will also develop and support Festival events and activities at our three Festivals and one-off events throughout the year.
