For Nursery Schools and Infant and Primary Schools with Nursery Classes

Emotion coaching (EC) is an evidence based co-regulation strategy. It’s a sustainable universal approach for all children. No additional equipment is required and the evidence is that staff trained in EC feel more confident to deal with emotionally challenged and challenging children. EC is an approach that is about fostering warm and responsive relationships with children through self-regulation and co-regulation of both children and adults.

If you will have 17 or more 3&4  year olds in your setting in September 2024 you may be eligible to take part in this research. Settings will be randomly selected to take part in EC training or to be in the comparison group. If you are selected to receive training you will have the opportunity to send 2-4 staff on 5 days online training for free. You will also receive £400 plus an additional hourly contribution towards backfill. If you are chosen as the comparison group you will receive £1400 as a thank you. There are also additional e-vouchers for staff and parents who complete questionnaires. Please check the information on the official websites for details.

The EC Training programme has been specifically designed to help nursery staff support young children’s personal, social and emotional developing, including self-regulation.
