We got in touch with you a few months ago due to concerns nationally and locally about measles. Recently there have been measles cases here in Derby, so we wanted to reach out again to ask you to share a letter with your community about the importance of having an MMR vaccine.
Measles is an infection which can spread very easily between people and can cause serious illness. The MMR vaccine is a very safe and effective vaccine which protects you from catching and spreading measles.
Measles is often thought of as a childhood illness but can affect anyone who has not had an MMR vaccine or previously had a measles infection. People in certain at-risk groups including babies and young children, pregnant women, and people with a weakened immune system, are at increased risk of complications from measles. It is important that anyone, at any age, who has missed their MMR vaccine, contact their GP to catch-up.
We have written a letter to parents/carers explaining the risks of measles and encouraging them to protect their children by getting the MMR vaccine. Please could all education settings and early years send this out through your usual communication channels.
Please also remind your staff of the importance of receiving their MMR vaccine.
Thank you for all the work you do, we really appreciate your support. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at cct@derby.gov.uk
