Priority Literacy Project Conference, 18th September 2024

Bookings are now open for Derby schools to attend the launch of Year 2 of the Priority Literacy project.

The event has been designed with Derby schools in mind. We want to ensure that schools get the maximum value from the last 9 months of the project so have deliberately created a day that provides:

  • Access to project experts
  • Keynote speakers addressing Derby priorities
  • Work with project leads – Carl Pattison and Amy Ford
    • Focussed on Derby audit results and learning. 
  • Access to programme providers so you can book services directly

Culture of Reading: Sport & Literacy

Funded through Priority Literacy and led by National Literacy Trust, the following initiatives are available for FREE to schools across Derby to access:

For young people in alternative provision or at risk of exclusion from mainstream education

  1. Represent, for girls aged 11 to 14, uses engaging texts to support communication skills, resilience and wellbeing. Free for schools in Derby, limited packs remaining!  Sign up to deliver one Represent / Game Changers here. This can be for immediate delivery or delivery in September.   2. Game Changers,  20-session reading programme that supports comprehension skills and uses sport as a hook to engage 11-14 year-olds. Free for schools in Derby. For primary schools

  1. We have an enhanced offer of Premier League Reading Stars, a football-themed reading engagement intervention for Key Stage 2 pupils. Reading Stars is proven to improve reading skills and foster a love of reading among students. Our offer for schools in Derby includes digital resources, a box of specially selected books, a briefing session and an author event hosted at your local stadium. The intervention is clearly set out for easy delivery with clear delivery notes, detailing all of the activities for each session and is written by the National Literacy Trust.  This can be for immediate delivery or delivery in September.   2. We are offering all Derby schools a pack of England (inc Lionesses) books as part of our EURO activity. Apply here. We are also looking for schools to watch our EURO book battle LIVE! event, but particularly for teams from Derby to take part. Communities of Practice

Focusing on developing reading, the next Communities of Practice event for Derby schools is taking place on 15th July and is open to primary and secondary colleagues:

KS3 Reading Fluency

KS3 Reading Fluency Bookings are now open for secondary schools to join the HFL KS3 Reading Fluency Project which begins in September 2024.

Derby Research School

Opportunities are available to all Priority Literacy schools to access CPD via the Derby Research School. CPD available includes, Creating an Evidence Informed Reading Strategy and Prioritising Oracy in the Classroom.
