22nd October – 9-10:30am – Vic Goddard: Creating an Attendance Culture

NEARLY FULLY BOOKED. Originally famous for his TV appearance as the 'Educating Essex' Headteacher, but now very much a national leader and esteemed speaker of education, Vic will talk about his experience of improving attendance for his pupils and how to create an inclusive culture within your setting that enables young people to feel safe, happy and connected. This will be an online session. 

6th November – 1-4pm – Bridge the Gap: Mental Health and Attendance

A half day workshop at Pride Park stadium which will explore some of the barriers presented by mental health needs of students in regularly attending school, as well as suitable interventions and approaches to creating a positive and nurturing environment. 

Aims of the session:

  • For all staff to gain ideas of creative, therapeutic, practical solutions and plans for adjustments in school for children who may be struggling.
  • To gain an insight into successful whole school approaches to supporting child mental health
  • To understand how low arousal approaches in school can foster a sense of belonging within the environment.

19th November – 9-4pm – EBSNA Training

This is a 1 day training course at Pride Park Stadium for schools who have not previously accessed EBSNA training, or who have had a change of staffing. 

Led by the Derby Educational Psychologist Team. This one day training will explore:

  • How to identify and understand the various factors within a child, home and school which interact to both cause and maintain school non-attendance
  • How to gather information for an individual student to understand the push and pull factors around non-attendance
  • How to co-construct a plan
  • How to work-with and support parents and young people along the way
  • Consideration of whole school approaches to prevent risk of school non-attendance
  • An introduction to the ATTEND toolkit

Attendance Media Campaign

Don’t forget…The ‘Unmissable’ campaign provides all schools with a toolkit to support their work in engaging positively with families around attendance. 

The campaign has been developed with young people from across the city and explores their thoughts and feelings on what makes school brilliant.
