Available to Book - The Science of Innovation: Careers in Engineering, Design, and Inspection

The Museum of Making, in partnership with Rolls-Royce, would like to invite your Year 8, 9 or 10 students to take part in a free and interactive half-day session, with the option to extend this with a self-guided tour of the museum. Activities relate to this year’s British Science Week theme ‘Change and adapt’. STEAM workshops will give students a unique and exclusive insight into the fascinating career options, available right here in Derby, from a world-leading global brand. We’ll be shining a light on the scientific principles, techniques and processes used by a whole spectrum of teams at Rolls-Royce. From looking at how to keep jet engines and nuclear reactors safe, to designing new, more efficient parts and powering submarines- it’s all here in one event!

Students will have the opportunity to look at the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 aero engine suspended in the museum and will engage in a series of real-life, experiment based, techniques used in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), the Materials Labs, Machining, and Submarines at Rolls-Royce. Students will also hear from Rolls-Royce apprentices and industry specialists about their own career pathways with advice on how to get into a career at Rolls-Royce.

There are four sessions taking place over two days, in which up to 30 of your Year 8 – Year 10 students can take part, which support the Gatsby Benchmarks. 

WEDNESDAY 26 MARCH at the Museum of Making, Derby, DE1 3AF

Session 1: 9:25am - 11.50am (+ optional self-guided tour of Museum of Making from 12pm)

Session 2: 12:25pm – 2.50pm (+ optional self-guided tour of Museum of Making from 10am) 

THURSDAY 27 MARCH at the Museum of Making, Derby, DE1 3AF

Session 3: 9:25am - 11.50am (+ optional self-guided tour of Museum of Making from 12pm)

Session 4: 12:25pm - 2.50pm (+ optional self-guided tour of Museum of Making from 10am)
