Action Research and Lesson Study Project part of the Universal SEND Services programme

The Action Research and Lesson Study project is delivered by the ISEND team at the University of Derby as part of the Universal SEND Services programme. It supports practitioners from schools, colleges and FE settings to develop their own inclusion-focused research projects.

Step-by-step guidance is provided through 6 online twilight sessions. Participants are then supported in publishing and disseminating their completed work. Participants are usually involved over one or two terms.

Action Research participants can propose their own inclusion and SEND research topic or select from a list of suggested areas, which include:

  • Adaptive teaching
  • SENCOs: Strategic Leadership of SEND and inclusion
  • Developing your setting’s SEND continuing professional development offer
  • Removing barriers for children with Autism
  • Emotional based school avoidance (EBSA)

Lesson Study involves three teachers engaging in a series of three planning and research lessons and focuses on the progress of just one or two learners.

  • 23 October 2024 (to start November 2024)
  • Project end date: 31 March 2025
