Educational Psychology Support
This service is for all schools and academies.
Derby City Council Specialist Teaching and Psychology Service (STePS) has relaunched a traded Educational Psychology (EP) service for Derby City schools.
All of our EPs are trained professionals who are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). The team also includes Trainee Educational Psychologists, who bring new and innovative practice to our service. We offer support for children and young people aged 0 to 25 years.
Here are some examples of how a Local Authority (LA) EP can support you and your school:
• coaching, mentoring and reflective supervision for school staff, including SENCOs, DSLs and senior leaders
• support for whole school SEND planning and staff confidence
• assistance to develop transition, integration and re-integration plans
• support for CYP experiencing emotional and mental health needs, including school anxiety
• information on sensory processing assessments and strategies
• training sessions for school staff and parents/carers
• guidance on evidence informed approaches and interventions
• information gathering to contribute to EHCNA requests
• supportive conversations with parents and carers
• specialist support for challenging and complex cases.
Benefits for your school
Your school will have access to an LA EP who understands the needs of your school and the local authority.
You will be allocated a named EP who you can build a relationship with and who can get to know your school.
Cost
From 1 April 2025, we will be offering the following packages:

- Each package will include a planning meeting
- All EP time direct and indirect is included in your package.
If you would like this service from 1 April 2025, please inform STePS admin of your intent to buy no later than 1 February 2025. We are currently only able to offer our traded service to a limited number of schools. Early notification will support us in allocating resources, but we may need to operate a ‘waiting list’ system if demand exceeds our capacity.
