Over the coming two weeks schools should receive Key Stage 1 tests materials and modified test materials. When these arrive in schools it is important to follow the guidance on test security. This can be found at How to keep test materials secure - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). All material should be kept securely and treated as confidential until Thursday 1st June.

Just some (but not all) of the practical advice for keeping Key Stage 1 materials secure are:

  • two members of staff should be involved when checking the delivery
  • check your delivery promptly against the enclosed delivery note
  • packs must remain unopened and should be put back into the original delivery box
  • store the boxes in a secure, locked cupboard
  • limit access to the location of the materials
  • a nominated member of staff should be responsible for the cupboard keys and ensure they are kept secure
  • record instances of access to the materials and to log regular security checks
  • check individual test packs have not been opened before the test administration window begins on Tuesday 3 May
  • keep test materials secure and treat them as confidential until June, including electronic versions of the tests downloaded from the Primary Assessment Gateway, and any materials subsequently printed in hard copy

If standard test materials have not arrived by Friday 24 March, or modified test materials have not arrived by Friday 31 March, or they arrive unsealed or damaged, schools should contact the national curriculum assessments helpline on 0300 303 3013.

Schools can download additional KS1 test materials and mark schemes from the PAG from Tuesday 2 May. This includes modified large print versions but excludes braille. Schools requiring additional braille materials should contact the national curriculum assessments helpline on 0300 303 3013.
