We have been asked by our insurers Zurich to remind all site responsible persons of the need to ensure that where any Hot Works are carried out on site, a formal procedure must be adopted and followed to reduce the risk of accidental building fires.
This will apply predominantly where contractors are carrying out work on site but also to situations where hot ignition sources are used, such as in metalwork classes and science laboratories.
In the case of contractor’s work, assurance of the procedures to be adopted by them should be sought from the person commissioning or managing the works.
In metal workshops and school laboratories, a set procedure must be in place and followed by those in charge of the class.
