The Council, as an employer, is required by law to have a policy for managing health and safety.
The Biennial review of the Council’s Health and safety Policy – Roles and responsibilities document has been completed. Consultation has taken place with trade union colleagues and the policy and was ratified at the Council’s Corporate Health and Safety Committee 02/02/2023.
A copy of the policy is included in this circular but can also be found on the Schools Information Portal: Policies - Schools' Information Portal (derby.gov.uk)
Health and Safety - Policy Statement
The policy sets out our general approach to health and safety. It explains how the council, as an employer, will manage health and safety.
The policy describes our commitment and aims to managing health and safety.
As a demonstration of this commitment, the policy is signed by both the Leader of the Council and The Chief Executive. It outlines the responsibilities of everyone from the Cabinet to Chief Officers, managers, and individual employees.
The other specific health and safety policies, procedures and guidance documents contained within the Policy section on the Schools Information Portal (SIP) form the basis of our arrangements and link back to the Health and Safety Policy – Roles and Responsibilities document
Community (maintained) schools – action:
Ensure a copy of the policy is shared with all employees.
