Why is equality and diversity important to your school?
Equality and diversity is not as easy as treating ‘everyone the same’ – far from it. It’s about embracing equality and diversity in your school and treating everyone with dignity and respect. It’s also about making adjustments for some people, so that they can achieve equality.
As public sector organisations, we have to meet the requirements of the Equality Act, and also the Equality Duty. It’s really important we get it right as mistakes can be costly, not only moneywise, but in our reputations too. So let us help you get it right first time.
Ann Webster, our Lead on Equality and Diversity has over 30 years’ experience in the equality world and has successfully led the Council to:
- Achieve ‘excellent in equality’ under the Equality Framework for Local Government – only the 6th Council to achieve this award
- Being one of Stonewall’s top 100 employers in the country for gay equality for the last three years
- Earn the ‘positive about disabled people’ logo for working with disabled employees and job applicants – we’ve had this every year since the scheme began in the early 90’s
- Winning the ‘CredAbility verified access award’ for the newly refurbished Council House
